160by2 Mobile Application is a downloadable mobile
application that allows users to send FREE SMS in India without actually
browsing to the 160by2 website. We support multiple editions of the
phones available in the markets. Please click here to check if your phone model supports our 160by2 Mobile Application.
160by2 gives users the ability to download multiple
different editions of the 160by2 mobile phone application in order to
ensure that the maximum number of models are supported. We have
editions of the mobile application which support both Java and Symbian
OS phones. However, to make it simple for users, we don’t make them
decide which edition to download. We merely ask which model of phone
they use so the correct edition of the application can be downloaded and
installed.
To know which edition of the application you are using, visit the Mobile Phone Application page and choose your device from the dropdown box and click next. You will
be taken to the application information page that is specific to your
device. The table at the top of the page will display which edition of
the device you would use for your device.
Accessing and downloading the 160by2 Mobile Application are
completely FREE. But depending on your service plan, you may be charged
by your mobile service provider. Check with your provider for more
information about fees associated with accessing the Internet from your
mobile phone. Java edition: If you
choose you use the “Via SMS” feature, you will be charged the price of a
single SMS message as per your mobile plan by your service provider
each time you send a SMS to a list of recipients.
The exact requirements to download and use the 160by2
application depend on which edition of the application you are using,
which in turn depends on which kind of mobile you have. Symbian OS Edition: To download 160by2, your phone needs a functional GPRS connection. Java Edition: We
recommend that your phone have a functional GPRS connection. However,
it is possible to still download and use the application with some
limited features. Specifically, you can only access 160by2 service
using the “Via SMS” feature, which cause you
Regardless of which edition of the application you are using,
you can directly download and install 160by2 from your mobile browser
by visiting http://www.160by2.com/app. Once the download has completed, simply follow the prompts to finish the setup.
However, if you intend to download and install the Java
Edition of the application, we give you the option of downloading the
jar file to your computer. Using a data transfer cable, you can then
transfer the jar file to your phone from your computer. The exact steps
for installing an application from a jar file would then depend which
type of phone you have. We suggest you visit the webpage of your mobile
manufacturer (eg. Nokia, Samsung, etc…) for more information about
installing applications from a computer.
To download the appropriate jar file, visit the Mobile Phone Application page and select the manufacturer & model of phone you have. If your
phone supports the Java edition of the application, then you will be
directed to a page with a link to download the jar file that is
appropriate for your phone.
The location of the application after download depends on
which model of phone you are using. For the following manufacturers try
the following folders: Nokia: Try the My own folder or the Applications folder. Samsung: Try the Downloads Applications folder. Motorola: Check the Games & Apps folder. Others: Depending on your theme, it can be in the main menu or in the application folder
If you still cannot find the application, consult the
instruction manual of your phone on how to install applications.
Using 160by2 mobile application requires you to have an
existing 160by2 web account. If you haven’t yet registered with us
please visit http://www.160by2.com and register yourself for free SMS. Then you can use your user ID and
password to login into 160by2 mobile application on your mobile.
Symbian OS edition: Your phone must have a GPRS connection to download and use the application. Java edition: We
recommend that your phone have a GPRS connection, but is possible to
download and use the Java edition of the application with limited
functionality. Users have the option of using the “Via SMS” feature to
connect to 160by2 when users don’t have a working GPRS connection. When
using the “Via SMS” feature, users can send an SMS to a long list of
recipients but only be charged the price of a single SMS by their mobile
service provider.
You are asked for permissions to protect your mobile from
wrong access. This setting is specific to your device. You can select
"Ask only once" to avoid permissions again and again. Some devices
require you to change application permissions in their device settings
option. Check your device instruction manual for more information on
granting permissions.
You are asked for permissions either when application tries
to connect to internet to send or receive data (i.e whenever you send
sms or access 160by2 contacts) or it tries to access the inbuilt
features of your device (i.e accessing your phone book). These
permissions are just keep the user informed about the application’s
actions. Simply, grant the 160by2 mobile application permission
whenever prompted to enjoy the application’s full functionality.
The number displayed while sending message using Via SMS is
the gateway number of 160by2. Whenever you send a message, it is by
default delivered to our gateway and from there we shall forward it to
the list of recipients as provided by you. Thus you are charged only for
one SMS to any number of recipients you want.
By default the access right for messaging API is set to "ASK
ALWAYS". The user needs to be prompted whenever any application uses
network messaging or multimedia services of his device.
This is because your mobile does not allow 160by2 to read
data from its PIM(Personal Information Manager). This is based on
security level of your device and the supportable JTWI (Java Technology
used in your phone) package.
Since 160by2 provides free SMS service anywhere in India to
any mobile, It stores only the mobile numbers that belongs to India.
Other contacts such as Landline numbers or mobile numbers belonging to
other countries are listed as invalid numbers.
Mobitop is a third-party platform we used in the 160by2
Mobile Application for it to work more efficiently. We recommend
allowing Mobitop to be installed for smoother functioning of the
application.
The “Via SMS” feature is useful when you don’t have a GPRS
connection but would like to send a single SMS to large number of
recipients. For example, if you wanted to send party reminders to ten
friends and didn’t want to pay for the ten SMS messages, you could send
from 160by2 mobile application using the “Via SMS” feature. In this
case, you would send a total of 10 SMS messages yet you would pay only
the price of a single SMS.
In summary, the “Via SMS” option requires no internet
connection and it allows you to send SMS to long list of Indian mobile
numbers while only being charged for the price of a single SMS by your
carrier.
